Websie Feature Update

As mentioned in the last newsletter, our Common Cup website has been receiving a facelift and one of the last challenges was to provide the foodcourt volunteers a search feature allowing them to download their individual work schedule.
Bill has finally figured out how to do it using the new streamlined web editor.
So, now you can not only download (and print out) the entire work schedule for the rest of the "season"-  but you can download (and print out) your individual schedule - or do it for anybody else - for that matter.
It's quite simple to do-  go to the volunteer's page (CLICK HERE) and choose the list you want as illustrated below.

Common Cup Workers To LaComedia !!

Virginia Pinkerton has come up with another idea to have a Wednesday night volunteer workers  Get-Together.  Here's her message:

To all Common Cup Workers...

I have reserved 20 seats At LaComedia for Friday October 14th at the price of $36 per person. This is a matinee beginning at 11:00am.  That includes everything BUT the tip.  I need to know as soon as possible if you would like to attend.  20 seats guarantees that price.  Less than 20, the price jumps to $54.  I am to give them a firm answer Thursday morning.  If we have 20 people interested I will put it on my credit card and then you can pay me.  If we have more, that will be ok also.  I hope it will work out for us.    Thanks, Virginia

The performace is a sequel to the Church Basement Ladies show we saw last year.
CLICK HERE to check it out.

Call Virginia at 766-5670 if you would like to go (and try to get  her called before Thursday)

Faith Community Announces Policy Change

The Common Cup community of churches is so fortunate to have Faith Community church sharing their facilities and acting as an anchor for the Food Court and shared ministry opportunities. (We would call that a definitive act of Radical Hospitality)

That sharing does present extra challenges with safety and security issues and with that concern, Faith Community has made a few policy changes:

" During normal business hours, please enter the church through the church office, give your name to the volunteer receptionist, indicate where you will be in the building or what program you are attending and sign the log.  Also, please let us know when you leave the area.  In case of an emergency (fire, storm, etc.), we would need to know where you are located in the building.

In addition, effective immediately, the office is open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Please call the office to make prior arrangements if you need entry before 8:30 a.m.  The double doors into the Community Center next to the handicapped parking area will be unlocked at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays for Common Cup"

Please take note of these changes.
For most of our Common Cup people, it will amount to little or no inconvenience, but if you have some extra difficulty, we're sure that the church office or Virginia can work something out.

Common Cup Food Court/Growth Groups Resume

Right on cue, the Wednesday Common Cup Food Court started up smoothly - as if there had been no summer break.
A few new faces joined the volunteer workers and a reported 260 people were served (Wow!).

One notable addition to the kitchen was a brand new commercial Ice Making machine. It was a donated gift from the church Youth Group!

WE hope you are taking advantage of the Growth Group sessions following the Wednesday night meal. Last Wednesday there were 2 Bible studies, a women's Circle, and a discussion of the upcoming Ballot Issues.
Check 'em out next week.

While you are perusing the handbook, you might check out the Growth Group sessions. They're starting with a bang this year and well worth an hour's investment.

Food Court Workers Need To Be Signed Up By Aug 01

After a brief summer break, the Common Cup Food Court resumes on September 8th.
Virginia will start mapping out the worker schedules on August 1st.

Those of you who worked over the past months are receiving  (in the mail) a record of your  personal preferences which you indicated for the just past Food Court schedule.

You need to review those preferences and determine if they remain the same for the upcoming Food Court weeks.

There are 4 areas on the sheet which needs your review:

  1. Do you still want to work at the same jobs as you did before?
  2. Do you still want to work on the same frequency schedule as you did before?
  3. If you indicate that you can supply desserts (in Step 1), is the frequency/specific Wednesday still the same?
  4. If you had indicated certain Wednesdays which you could not work/donate desserts (for instance the 2nd Wed in December) - then,  are those dates still the same?

Look over the preference schedule which you received in the mail and if the answer is "yes" to the 4 questions above (ie., you would want Virginia to schedule you with your same preferences as last time) - then  YOU DO NOT NEED TO REPLY.  Virginia will match your last session preferences as best she can.

If you need to change your work preferences, please plainly mark out the preference you want to change and check your new preference.  If you cannot work at all, just write that on the sheet.  Mail all you Preference changes to:

Virginia Pinkerton        or   drop off at Faith Community church
3676 Cortsville Rd.
Cedarville, OH 45314

If you have not been a volunteer to work at the Food Court and you would like to volunteer, we have provided a signup Preference sheet  [CLICK HERE] which you can print out, fill out and mail to Virginia (see above).

If possible, please return it by Aug. 01.

As soon as Virginia completes her scheduling, it will be posted on our website and receive an email/postal mail copy.

A Night Out For Food Court Vollunteers

After another successful "season" of the Common Cup Food Court, some of the volunteers had a "Night Out" at the LaComedia Dinner Theater.

The occasion was last Wednesday night - and what do you imagine was on the playbill?  It was a play called "Church Basement Ladies"

It was about a church basement kitchen and the women who prepare meals there - WOW- would you say it was a busman's holiday for the Food Court group?

The play, a musical comedy, was very good, not to mention that the buffet was excellent.

Our CC website has posted a few photos of the group as well as a few samples of WDTN Channel 2's viewpoint.  CLICK HERE.

Christian Juggler A Big Hit At Food Court

David Cain, renown Juggler For Jesus, performed his routine at last Wednesday's Food Court (May 12).
The entertainment was provided as a special Thank You gift for all those who supported Common Cup this year - especially our food court volunteers and growth group leaders.
We captured a few photos of the performance (although it is impossible to do the performance justice without a fast frame sports camera)
Last Wednesday's food court was the last until next September when Virginia's troops will resume after a Summer break.

No More Standing In Line On Wednesday!

Good News for those who do not like to stand in line on Wednesday night at the Food Court!

Virginia and her staff are installing a new procedure starting next Wednesday night. It goes something like this:

Instead of standing in line to fill your tray, you will enter and pay the cashier (Ann or Phyllis), receive a numbered ticket and take a seat at any table. If you like, you can get your beverage and be sipping on it as you sit and wait for your number to be called.

When Ann/Phyllis calls your number, your called numbers can proceed to the serving line.
Hopefully, things will run smoothly.
This arrangement will continue through the rest of the year.
If you find that you like it, then it will be the ongoing arrangement.

We would like to hear what you think about the "Take a Number" idea.

(At the end of thi message, you will see the word "comments" .
Click on "comments" to add your comment)

A Handy Little Tool For Food Court Volunteers

My pal, Bill, has worked up a little search routine where you can determine upcoming meals for which you are scheduled to work.

In this way you won't have to search through the big detailed schedule sheets to find your name.
And ...  you may want to know when your bosom buddy is working - you can look that up too.

Here's how:
1.  Goto our Common Cup website and click on [ Food Court Volunteer Schedules ]
( It's just below Virginia's characterture)

2. Then look for and click on  [If you would like to SEARCH the schedule dates for a given volunteer click here]

3. Just enter the last & first name, then click on  [ Submit Search ]

4. Bingo!
The schedule for the rest of the year, for the person entered, pops up.

If you like, you can print it out for reference.

What the search will not do:
It will not look backward - it won't list work nights for the past weeks.
It won't account for the Wednesday nights when you have asked someone to sub for you. You can pencil that in.

Here how a typical schedule will look:

Come to think of it- that one isn't typical - in fact, it makes me tired!
