Cedarville"s Annual Ham Dinner
Thursday, March 22nd will be the date for Cedarville UMC's annual Ham Dinner.
This event dates back to when they roasted their own hog and ground it for the occasion.
I would sure like to know how long this event has been going on - it must be the UMPTEENTH annual dinner.

Youth Bazaar On At Faith Community
The Fall Youth Bazaar opened today (5pm to 8p) and will be open tomorrow (Saturday from 9am to 5pm).
This is a big event in 4 areas: The MarketPlace, Ginger's Goodies, Santa's Wookshop and even a cafe called the Lunch Basket where you can sit down to a bite to eat.
The following photos were taken as they were setting up on Friday afternoon.

Fall Youth Bazaar At Faith Community
The Youth at Faith Community church are having another big Fall Youth Bazaar.
The times are Friday, Nov. 18th from 6-9 pm and Saturday, Nov. 19th from 10am to 5pm.
AS was last year, it will be held in the church's Community Center and proceeds will go to Youth Missions.

Where To Eat On Election Day?
Is there anyone who has not driven down the road lately and seen "signs" of an upcoming election?
And once again, Cedarville UMC is preparing to feed the voting public and the poll workers.
There is a salad buffet from 11:00 - 1:30 for lunch. The lunch cost is $5.50.
Then at 5:00pm and continuing to 7:30pm, the church will hold their annual Election Day Chili Supper.
The cost is $6.50 and $3.00 for children.

It Happened 100 Yrs Ago In Cedarville
One hundred years ago, Oct 16, 1910 to be exact, a torrential rain was pounding the village of Cedarville with a cold howling wind adding to the unpleasantries.
The inclement weather, however, did not deter folks from filling the sanctuary of the Cedarville Methodist church to hear a recital by a Professor Mason of Ohio Wesleyan. He was playing the first pipe organ ever heard in the Cedarville area.
The occasion was marking the dedication of the newly remodeled Cedarville church. The remodeling had been a major undertaking with the cost $8500, a huge sum in those days and much higher than the original intent of spending $4000 and surely a major financial hardship on its members.
It is recorded that "there was no discontent from beginning to end" for they had a newly remodeled structure to take pride in. The building entrances were reoriented to better suit entry, new classrooms and a fellowship hall were added and, yes, a majestic pipe organ was installed in the sanctuary.
To commemorate that effort of a hundred years past, there will be a Carry In dinner this Sunday, Oct. 24th following the worship service
Everyone is invited to come and enjoy a meal as Cedarville Church REMEMBERS.

Ladies May Day Luncheon at Cedarville
A Ladies May Day Luncheon will be held at Cedarville United Methodist church at 1pm on May 1st (two weeks from tomorrow).
The featured speaker will be nationally known Dr. Naima Johnston. She is an accomplished singer, composer and speaker with a testimonial Christian message.
All ladies from Cedarville and the county are invited and welcome.
The cost of the meal is a reasonable $5.
Dr. Johnston is not charging a fee, but a Love Offering will be collected for her expenses in coming.
Reservations need to be called in to Pat Stevenson at 767-2677 as soon as possible for their planning purposes and no later than April 27th. (They must cut it off at 60 persons).
This appearance is an opportunity to be entertained by a great Christian artist who is currently on a tour from Nashville to New York.

Ham Dinner at Cedarville UMC
On Thursday night, March 25th, the Cedarville UMC will hold their annual Ham Dinner.
According to the church historian, Jane Mills, the church originally started serving a dinner called "Ground Hog Dinner" The members would roast a whole hog, grind up the sausage for a sausage dinner- hence "Ground Hog Dinner" (get it?)
After so many years, the hog deal became too complicated and it evolved into a Ham Dinner .
Mark your calendar for March 25th with hours 5pm to 7:30pm.
Admission is $8 (children under 10 are $4 - a family ticket is $20)

Clothing Store At Cedarville UMC
The Cedarville United Methodist Church operates a clothing store to serve the needy of the community. It was started a year ago last October.
The store offers free clothing to those in need. Tables are set up in the Fellowship Room to display items which are donated by friends and neighbors from all over town.
Volunteers open the store at 9:30 on the third Saturday of each month. Since the Food Pantry at the nearby Presbyterian Church is open at the same time, it provides a convenience for those in need of both.
Pat Stevenson, spokesperson for the volunteer effort, wants all to know that they have a particular need for children's items - such as infant & baby clothes, children clothes in the order of sizes 4 & 5.
Donors usually drop their bags of clothes off at the front steps of the church. Donations are gathered in each day.
If you have questions regarding donations, please call Pat Stevenson at 767-2677.
The store has become quite popular, with a good number showing up before the doors open. Consequently, the church is now looking for a store front location nearby to avoid the protracted setup and teardown time. (they have to clear out the Fellowship room and store the clothing away each time - one of the storage places being up the steps to a balcony room- they do have a couple of college lads to help with that)

In the foyer of the church there is a container for collecting food items.
Not only are members encouraged to contribute food items but they also have a Food Drive a couple of times a year. Where does the food go? Well, they take it to the Food Pantry at the Presbyterian church next door. How's that for an ecumenical gesture?
(I wonder whether there are any Baptists in Cedarville?)
BTW, when you see the church building in the Photo Gallery, do you notice anything different in the picture of the church - something huge is missing and its not the snow.

How Does Eating Out On Election Night Sound?
Cedarville United Methodist Church is having their annual Chili Supper on Nov. 3rd (election day) from 5:00 to 7:30. The cost is $6.50 and $3.00 for children.
The dinner includes chili, pb&j sandwiches, cornbread, salad, & dessert!!
There is also a salad buffet from 11:00 - 1:30 for lunch. The lunch cost is $5.50.
[I think that's worth a trip to Cedarville - right after we vote!]
I might even get me a pb&j
