A message to all the Common Cup Church members:
As a response to the tragic earthquake in Haiti, Bishop Ough has asked the churches to designate this Sunday for a special offering:
"We urge our pastors and mission/outreach committees in West Ohio to take an offering this Sunday in support of UMCOR's Haiti disaster response efforts." -
The offerings will be sent directly to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) through Advance Special #418325.
Here's the beauty of giving through UMCOR:
- The UM church sets up special project numbers (as the one stated above) so that every single penny will go to the Haitian relief effort. Other chairable agencies -as good as they are- use a percentage of your gift for fund raising/administration.
You may ask why doesn't UMCOR have administration costs - they do ... but those costs are supported by One Great Hour of Sharing.
- UMCOR already has a presence in Haiti and can work immediately with the church and other locals. They have responded to these emergencies many times and know what they're doing.
Bishop Ough is also suggesting a response to the call for Health Kits. For information on the kits, click HERE.
If your church doesn't have a collection point, Bellbrook UMC has volunteered to act as a Collection Point.
