A Breakfast Opportunity To Hear Gaston Ntambo

Gaston Ntambo, missionary pilot for Wings of Morning ministry in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, will be at Bellbrook United Methodist Church, 47 E. Franklin St, Bellbrook, OH  45440, Saturday, May 12.  

We (Bellbrook UMC) are hosting Gaston Ntambo at Bellbrook on Saturday, May 12, 8-9 am.  Common Cup Churches: Please advertise this event.  This is a great opportunity.  Please put in bulletin and e-mail announcements this Sunday.

All interested persons are invited to have breakfast with Gaston at 8 am, followed by a presentation about Wings of Morning at 9 am.

Please RSVP for breakfast and/or presentation to pastor@bellbrookumc.org or 848-2909 by Wednesday, May 9.  Free will offering for cost of breakfast. 

This is an opportunity to see and hear a man who has been heralded for many years for saving hundreds of lives through his "Wings of Morning" Mercy flights in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He flies his plane on mercy missions in less than ideal conditions- not the least is fact that aircraft grade gasoline is not available in his home country. He has to fly  to the neighboring country of Zambia to obtain gasoline which must be quite expensive and time consuming.

Bishop Ough's Easter Message From Bellbrook Church

A message from Pastor Terry Heck, Bellbrook UMC
Dear Friends,

As you know, the tragedy of HIV/AIDS continues to be very serious in our world -- especially in many countries where the disease carries so much stigma and medicine is not easily accessible.

An e-mail from Linda Bales Todd included an important story about the United Methodist Church and hope.  Linda is one of our church members who is the Director of the Louise and Hugh Moore Population Project through the United Methodist General Board of Church and Society -- located in Washington, DC (did you know that about Linda?)

Undoubtedly, you have picked up on my passion and compassion for people who suffer with this horrible disease.  I share the letter with you because I care and I believe you care, too.  This is a letter of hope.

Be proud of your church and give thanks for people like Linda (and Don Messer, who wrote the story) who strives to bring God's kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.

Here's the story:

"20/20: Visioning An AIDS Free World" ....a story of transformation.

I visited a house in rural India where three little kids had been left orphans after both of their parents died from AIDS. No furniture, no beds, no toys, and no bathroom, but for the first time a barren light bulb in one corner. When I turned on the electricity, their squeals and smiles reduced me to tears.

Siva, 15, malnourished, works with raw hands six days a week for 10 hours a day at a poultry farm cleaning eggs with a formaldehyde substance. The $44 a month he earns goes to buying food and paying off the 5,000 rupee debt his father accumulated while he was sick. His sister, Gomathi, 12, suffers from tuberculosis, but rises at 6 a.m. to cook and clean, and then goes to school (catching a bus at 7 a.m. and returning about 7 p.m.) Together they care for their beautiful 8 year old, HIV positive brother, Murugan. "With the light, we can now see."

This child-headed household struggles to survive in an incredibly difficult world, but they get needed assistance thanks to a Women and Children's Health Center initiated through the UMC Global AIDS Fund. Under the direction of N. M. Samuel, M.D., this Center provides free care to impoverished women and children infected and affected by HIV and AIDS. The clinic operates yearly on faith and hope, relying on gifts to cover a budget of about $25,000.

Siva, Gomathi, and Murugun are but three of the 1,415 patients helped by the Center last year. On any given day, the clinic treats from 75 to 100 women and from 5 to 60 children. This little light bulb is a vivid reminder of how United Methodists prove to be "the light of the world" through the United Methodist Global AIDS Fund. By bringing health and help, we spread Christ's love and light throughout the world.

Atypical Quilt Show At Bellbrook UM Church

Billed as "This isn't your Grandma's Quilt Show", Bellbrook UMC is presenting a little different slant on the Quilting world.

As part of the 200 year celebration, the church will host a free quilt show and social this coming Saturday from 1pm to 4pm.

Lesa Bame, Award winning Bellbrook Quilter will speak at 2 pm
"Modern Twist to Old Quilting Favorites...If These Quilts Could Talk"

Light Refreshments will be served.

In order to get an idea as to how many to plan for, reservations are suggested.

Our friends at Bellbrook UMC want you to know that one of their members, Hildegard McCloud, is having an auction of her late husband's things.


It is being held on Saturday, June 12 at 10 am at the Warren County Fairgrounds.
If you are interested in antique hand tools (like me) among many other items, you'll find them at this auction.

Reaching Out to the Poor of Our Communities

---

If you have felt a desire to help the poor and needy of your community, then next Sunday afternoon should be of interest.

Next Sunday, April 25, 2010, 3 - 4:30 pm, at Bellbrook United Methodist Church, Rev. Louise Seipel will lead a time of learning on how to become involved in ministry with persons who are poor or low-income persons.

Rev. Seipel has vast training and experience in community ministries, is a delightful presenter, is grounded in the spiritual dimensions of ministry, and is deeply compassionate.

The event is open to all persons -- clergy, lay leaders, and mission/outreach committees -- anyone who desires to be more deeply involved in reaching the poor of our communities.

There is no cost for this event -- reservations are preferred by calling the church at 848-2909 .

Bellbrook UMC Dedicates Their Building Addition

The dedication of Bellbrook UMC's new Addition was held this past Sunday.

Bishop Ough, our resident West Ohio bishop, delivered the sermon to a "full house".

Following the worship service, the congregation proceeded to the new Addition for a Consecration Service led by Bishop Ough & Dr. Chris Heckerman, the MV District Superintendent.

The Cornerstone was laid and a Time Capsule will be sealed behind it.

An Open House followed in the afternoon.

We could see big smiles lighting up the place all afternoon. Yet it has been less than a year when the members were seriously considering a vote to obligate themselves to such a big undertaking (it was a unanimous YES vote).

Now there are stories of members going the extra mile in donating necessary items which were not funded. (a lot of excitement in the office when another truck pulls up and unloads a new stove or a 3 compartment stainless sink)

There must have been many who were thinking of a tireless worker in the church for so many years and who passed away last year - that being Don Queary.

I'm sure someone must have silently looked up and said, "Well Donnie, how are we doing?"

Bellbrook UMC To Dedicate New Building Addition

The Big day is approaching! 

Bellbrook church is dedicating their new building addition on Sunday, October 18^th.

Mary Frantz sent an invitation  (Click Here) to the occasion to all the Common Cup folks, giving the details.

They will be expecting a nice crowd (including Bishop Ough) -so you will need to RVVP (which can be easily done by responding at office@bellbrookumc.org by Oct. 13^th.

Bellbrook UMC Has Folding Chairs Available

Sep. 23, 2009 As you know, Bellbrook UM church is in the process of moving to and furnishing their new building wing, working toward the big Dedication date..

Mary Frantz wants you to know that they have approx. 100 folding chairs available for $3 each (where else could you buy folding chairs for $3) Here is Mary's message:

"We have some extra folding chairs available at the church. They are in a pile in the new Community room at the church. If you would like to buy some for those big family dinners or neighborhood parties, they are available for $3.00 a chair. We have approximately 100.'

"Stop in during the day, 9-12 on Monday and Wednesday or 9-3 on Tuesday and Thursday and check them out. If you would like to come at another time, call Ken McDaniel at 477-1773 and make arrangements.

Building Project Underway at Bellbrook UMC

April 30, 2009

Tangible evidence of Bellbrook UMC's unanimous vote to build an addition to the church is now quite visible.

As the congregation celebrate their Groundbreaking service at 10am this Sunday, Construction crews are moving steadfastly ahead with the project, which is expected to be completed this fall.
