Fwd: Common Cup Inclement Weather Policy

The Common Cup Reporter

  Dear Common Cup:

As we get closer to winter weather we would like to remind you that Faith Community UMC will close on the days that the Xenia Community Schools close due to inclement weather.

If there is no school due to bad weather on a Wednesday, then we will not have Common Cup.

If weather becomes inclement during the day on Wednesday, please watch your local news stations for evening cancelations.

We will do the best we can at communicating with you through the winter season.

Let's hope the weather does not present unsafe conditions for our staff, volunteers, and guests.  Be safe.

Peace,
Pastor Rick Tettau

Fwd: Cedarville Church Holding Chili Supper

-

The Common Cup Reporter

As most of you know, the Cedarville UMC building has suffered some serious structural damage.  The danger is such that no activity can be held in the building.

The congregation is holding Sunday morning service in the Presbyterian Church across the street.

The annual Chili Supper Fund Raiser held every Election Day has a more earnest meaning this year and the church is hoping for a big turnout on November 5th.

The serving time is from 5pm to 7:30 pm at the Cedarville United Presbyterian Church.

Common Cup is in need of a dishwasher on Wednesday nights.

This is a service opportunity that requires hard work and being on your feet (but you sure associate with a lot of nice people).

The dishwasher is a critical part of making the food operation possible.

Your support will be greatly appreciated!

The second annual ICE CREAM BLAST is coming to Spring Valley UMC on this Saturday, July 20th from 4pm to 7pm !!!

This year's IC Blast will follow along the lines of last year's successful event, except the size of the ice cream scoops will be much larger!

Even if you don't like homemade ice cream, there's pulled pork sandwiches and the Spring Valley church's famous chicken patty sandwiches.

Make plans now!! There's no cost, but donations will be appreciated to support Schneider House, Red Bird, Henderson Village, St. Paul and UMCOR.

SVUMC Party Line July 16, 2013

As seen by the attached photo, the new steel I-Beam lintel in now in place.
It will be completely covered from view when the new ceiling work is done, and we can enter the sanctuary knowing that potential problem is behind us.

Now the construction turns back to the Sanctuary Lift and the remodeled entry area.

Fwd: SVUMC Party Line July11, 2013

The attached photo, taken on Wednesday, shows the latest construction activity in the Sanctuary Lift project.
Actually, the Lift project itself is on hold while a structure defect is being repaired.

In the process of tearing out the wall/ceiling to accommodate the Lift, the work exposed  the supporting Lintel over the entrance to the sanctuary. It has a crack in it and needs to be replaced.
(This is part of the original 1906 construction and who knows how long the crack has been there.)

Knisley Construction, who have the contract for the Sanctuary Lift, is doing the repair work and as the photo shows - the temporary support is in place and ready to tear out and replace the lintel with a permanent support.

Meanwhile, we continue to hold the Sunday morning service in the Fellowship Hall and hopefully the construction work will soon turn to finishing the Sanctuary Lift .

(Most of you know all of this, but the out-of-towners may not)

Fwd: Oklahoma Tornados

Bishop Palmer has issued a WOC newsletter asking for prayers for the victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes and how we can help.

Click HERE to read his message.

I probably sound like a broken record - but I favor UMCOR over all the other organizations for disaster relief, because I am positive that 100% of my contribution goes to the relief effort. ( I know there are several others who claim so - but I am sure of this one.)

A BIG MV District UM Men Meeting

The Miami Valley District UMM Executive Team is excited to announce a special opportunity to be a part of the "Wings of the Morning" ministry.

Gaston Ntambo, pilot for the ministry, will be at Faith Community UMC / Xenia for our next meeting of the Miami Valley District UMM on Tuesday, May 14, at 7 pm, to share his story.

We will gather with others from the Greene County Common Cup churches, Miami Valley District UMC's & WOC.  Bring your spouse and family. A reception will follow.

A service of dedication and consecration will be held on May 15th at 1:45 PM at the Vectren airshow location at Dayton International airport. All are invited to this event as well.

About a year ago the extravagantly generous efforts of the West Ohio Conference raised over $ 1 Million for the purchase of a new plane to support medical and mission efforts in otherwise inaccessible areas of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  [ His original plane was both small and unsuited for its mission. In particular, the plane required the type of fuel that is not available at many locations in the Congo.   The new plane cures all those problems. ]Together with The New Jersey Conference and others, about $ 2 1/4 Million have been raised.  A plane has been purchased and is being refitted for use.
Gaston Ntambo will be present to talk about what God is doing in his life, the "Wings of the Morning" mission and the new airplane.

Faith Community UMC is located just off US Rte. 68 at 100 Country Club Dr., Xenia, www.fcum.org, 372-7601.
Following the presentation there will be a time for questions and a reception to talk more informally with Gaston.
Please try to get several men from your church to attend with you.
