UMM Garage Sale Is A Winner

Last weekend, the Faith Community United Methodist Men held their annual Garage Sale in and about the Community Room.
This was the first of their garage sales which I have attended and I was kinda amazed.
The donated items pretty much filled the expansive Community Room with some of the gardening equipment outside the door.
There was a little of everything from antique furniture to tomato plants.

As soon as the doors opened, there was a crowd rush to snap up the bargains.

There are photos of the event posted on our website.  CLICK HERE to view those photos.

You will notice that we have changed our gallery format and hopefully, the change will allow you to navigate through it a bit easier.

The Common Cup IHN Room Needs Cleaning

Finally, we will be seeing our Common Cup room at the Interfaith Family Center all finished!   But first, a little cleanup help is needed to get it ready.   Here is Rick Tettau's message:
Service Opportunity -  The Common Cup bedroom at the IHN Family Center on South Detroit Street is ready for deep cleaning.
Before the IHN staff can move furniture into the room they have requested each group deep clean their room.
If you are able and interested in this service ministry, please contact Deacon Rick (272-2640) with your interest
The Family Center is open during the week and on most Saturdays.  You can arrange the cleaning at your convenience.  They would like this completed ASAP, so please consider this opportunity.

God bless,
Rick

Christian Juggler A Big Hit At Food Court

David Cain, renown Juggler For Jesus, performed his routine at last Wednesday's Food Court (May 12).
The entertainment was provided as a special Thank You gift for all those who supported Common Cup this year - especially our food court volunteers and growth group leaders.
We captured a few photos of the performance (although it is impossible to do the performance justice without a fast frame sports camera)
Last Wednesday's food court was the last until next September when Virginia's troops will resume after a Summer break.

Opportunity To Discuss The New "Darwin" Movie

The following message is from Glen Bengson (remember him - he's the former pastor at the Lutheran church - the church which operates The Caring Place on West Main, Xenia)

Dear Friends,

The Little Art Theater in Yellow Springs will show the recent Charles Darwin biopic at 4pm on Sunday, May 16.

I've volunteered to moderate an informal discussion after the film at about 5:30pm.

The movie deals with Darwin's personal and family life as he struggles, along with his religiously devoted wife, with his scientific observations and conclusions about the development and origins of life and the implications for faith. Darwin is a seminal scientific and cultural figure of the last 200 years (and he shares the same birthdate with Lincoln, Feb. 12, 1809). We are still debating the relevance and relation of his scientific theories and religious faith today.
It seems a good opportunity to use a major (if not Oscar winning) film to dialogue on important issues.

The intention is not to change minds or prove positions, and certainly not to engage in  technical scientific or religious talk, but to open a place for discussion, questions, insights, understanding, and civil dialogue in a neutral setting over a still-relevant contemporary issue. (I think also it's good to encourage the Little Art in their mission to bring fine, relevant, and independent movies to the community.)

For your info, the film features Paul Bettany (the monk in Da Vinci Code) and his actual wife, Jennifer Connelly, as Charles Darwin and his wife.

Thanks,
Glen Bengson

Chicken Noodle Dinner Enjoyed At Oldtown UMC

The Oldtown UM church did it again!
Their reputation for making Chicken & Noodles brought a large crowd on Saturday, April 24th.
The seating area for diners is not large but they had lots of volunteers and lots of experience - so the line moved well yet there was no feeling of having to hurry through the meal. Carryout meals were also handled with dispatch.
For some photos of the evening activity, go to our website Photo Gallery by clicking HERE.
Our Photo Gallery has a new look which we think might be a little more convenient and easier to navigate.  Give us your thoughts.
