Fwd: MV District Gets New Leadership

We have received the news that Dr. Chris Heckaman will no longer be serving as our Miami Valley District superintendent.  As of July 01, he will be serving as senior pastor at Trinity UMC in Columbus.  (He'll be able to rub elbows with Robert McDowell at nearby Lancaster)

Replacing Rev Chris will be Dr. Jocelyn Roper.  Some information on Dr. Roper is contained in Bishop Palmer's recent announcement:

"Bishop Gregory V. Palmer announced today that The Rev. Dr. Jocelyn M. Roper will be appointed conference superintendent of the Miami Valley District in the West Ohio Conference of The United Methodist Church, effective July 1, 2014. Rev. Roper will follow the Rev. Dr. Christopher Heckaman who will become senior pastor at Trinity United Methodist Church in Columbus after a five-year appointment leading the district.'

"Roper, who grew up in Springfield, Ohio and is a lifelong United Methodist, currently serves as the Director of Diversity Initiatives for the West Ohio Conference. Prior to that she was the Assistant to the Superintendent in the Ohio River Valley District for seven years. Rev. Roper received her Bachelor of Science degree from Central State University, and both her Master of Arts in Theological Studies and Doctor of Missiology degrees from United Theological Seminary. She also served as Pastor of Mt. Healthy United Methodist Church and on multiple conference and district committees. Before becoming an ordained elder in the West Ohio Conference in 2000, Dr. Roper served the church as a community developer, a church and community worker, a deaconess and a diaconal minister. "

Fwd: SUPPER BOWL SUPER COLLECTION !!

The Common Cup Churches are participating in a food collection contest.  It is called the Supper Bowl Super Collection.  Here are the details:

1. Each church will collect as much food as possible throughout January.

2. The collection ends at 1pm on February2nd, Superbowl Sunday.

3. We will weigh your church's food collection at Trupointe at 1pm on the 2nd. It is located at 415 Bellbrook Ave, Xenia, OH 45385.

4. Each pastor will report their church's Superbowl Sunday attendance.

5. We will take the weight of the food that your church collects and divide it by the number of attenders at your church and the one with the highest total wins the Supper Bowl Super Collection trophy!

Ask your pastor for details on which pantry your church is supporting and how your church is handling the collections.

Do You Know What Love Packages Are ?

Are you aware of the Love Package project?  The District United Methodist  Men have been participating in the project for a couple of years.
The following update by John Sherer tells what the project is about and how it has yielded big results.

2013 LOVE PACKAGES MISSION PROJECT UPDATE: By John W.Sherer

In 2012 the Miami Valley District United Methodist Men initiated a new mission project for churches in the MVD.
It's called Love Packages, a Ministry aimed at putting used Christian literature and bibles into the hands of people around the third world.
This is an ecumenical Ministry. Churches throughout the USA are collecting old bibles, used Sunday school, Bible school materials, daily devotionals, Christian books, cassettes, CDs, videos, DVDs, or magazines.
These materials are collected from our church by Wayne Thomas. He then takes all the materials collected from the Miami Valley area churches, transports them to the central processing center in Butler, Illinois where volunteers sort and pack the materials into containers to be shipped overseas. Missionaries around the world can use these to teach God's Word and build His kingdom.

The following represents the total distribution of this organization in 2013:

Faith Community and the Common Cup Churches donated over 1 ton of materials in 2013.

This seems a good time to encourage members (following Christmas) to look through your shelves for books, and materials listed above that you are not using and bring them to  your church and create a box or large tub  marked Love Packages  where your members can drop off these items. Then call Wayne Thomas at 1-513-932-5504  or Leo Scholl, MVDUMM Coordinator at 937-901-0165 for a pick up or for a presentation on this project.
Praise God many people in these third world countries are being saved through these efforts. Remember Proverbs 11:30 "He that wins souls is wise".
