Big Band Performs At Thanksgiving Service

Did you catch the Big Band Thanksgiving Service on November 14^th?

Ray Foster's Nostalgia Big Band performed at a Community Thanksgiving service in The Faith Community UMC sanctuary.

It was co-sponsored by the Xenia Area Association of Churches & Ministries and titled

 "Make a Joyful Noise Unto the Lord".

You never saw so many smiling faces at the program's conclusion.

The really neat thing about the music was that each selection was linked to a Bible scripture, each of which were read by a clergy or lay person.

And if you missed the performance, never fear, I just received a message from Glen Shaw that a Christmas concert will be held on December 19th at the same location. Here's Glen's message:

' The Community Christmas Concert Band will present a program of Christmas Music on December 19, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. in the Sanctuary at Faith Community United Methodist Church, located at 100 Country Club Dr. in Xenia.
The newly formed band is under the direction of Glen Shaw and Ray Foster. This group is made up of fine musicians from all over the Miami Valley area, hence the name "Community".

The program will consist of both sacred and secular music and will last approximately one hour. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend. Please consider attending this event to celebrate the birth of our Savior.'

Saturday: Turkey Supper & Bazaar in Spring Valley

Spring Valley United Methodist church has been having their Turkey Supper ever since "us ole timers" were little gobblers -  65 straight years, to be exact.
And the concurrent Bazaar has a few years under its belt also.  By now, they pretty well know how to fed a crowd. See you there..

Youth Fundraiser At Nick's

 As a fundraiser, the Youth at Faith Community UMC are promoting a 'dining out' at Nick's.

The FCUM  youth will receive 15% back if people bring the flyer in any Sunday in November with their meal. They are located at 1443 N. Detroit St., Xenia and you can check out Nick's food menu by clicking HERE

Big Band Highlights Thanksgiving Service

Dear Common Cup Members:

I'm not sure you are aware that FCUMC will co-sponsor the "Make A Joyful Noise Unto The Lord" concert by Ray Foster's Big Band on November 14th.

This will serve as the Community Thanksgiving Service co-sponsored by the Xenia Area Association of Churches.

I'm enclosing a copy of the  program. I'm serving on the planning committee and we are seeking sponsors. The sponsor's names will be listed in the program. We hope to raise enough money from sponsors to cover costs, then there will be a free will offering which along with any moneys left over from the sponsors, will go towards 3 charities, Fish, Interfaith Hospitality Network, and Good Samaritan Fund.

I'm inviting you to join me as a sponsor. To sponsor, make your check out to Faith Community UMC and indicate it's for "Make a Joyful Noise" concert. You may give the check to the church but please notify Joe Harner direct by October 30th deadline that you made a gift (The program goes for print November 1st).  He doesn't need to know the amount but he is responsible

Faith Community Church Searches For Worship/Praise Team Leader

Worship/Praise Team Leader
Faith Community UMC is seeking part-time (less than 10 hours/week) year-round Worship/Praise Leader to design and lead 9:45 a.m. Sunday worship services to glorify and honor God.

Duties:
secure and coordinate musicians/vocalists
select music/scores/charts (arrange/transpose as needed)
lead weekly rehearsals
direct musicians/vocalists during services
ensure equipment repair
attend periodic meetings
prepare/monitor purchase orders and annual budget.

Requires a sincere commitment to the mission of the church and dedication to spiritual fulfillment through music ministry.  Formal music education or proven hands-on music director experience, plus knowledge of quality praise band music and Easy Worship software.  Mail resume to FCUM, 100 Country Club Drive.
