Fw: Bible Study Added To Wednesday Night Agenda

A new Bible study has been added to the Wednesday  night Common Cup agenda (beginning Jan. 13th).

This Bible study adds to the already excellant Growth Group subjects which we described in a previous newsletter

Here are some of the details of the new Bible study:

Common Cup Bible study - The Common Cup Bible study will focus on some of the lesser known books of the Bible.  We will read a book of the Bible before class, discuss major themes in our small group, and talk about how the book offers a missional focus for the church today.  The first class will focus on 1 Corinthians.  Classes will meet in Room 6 on Wednesday nights at Faith Community beginning on January 13.  The class will meet for 5 weeks.  Pastor Rick will lead the class.

A YouTube video is attached which captures high school students playing
silent monks and "singing" the Hallelujah Chorus.

Call For Help Is Answered

In our Christmas Eve newsletter, Virginia Pinkerton asked if there was someone who could fill in for the Fosters and deliver Wednesday Night meals to shut-ins for the month of January.
She has received 4 volunteers already!!
Is that what Christmas (christian) giving is all about .... or what ?
Good for them.

As illustrated below, it is easy to gain access to the schedules.

CAN YOU HELP?

TO:  John & Joanne Fristoe  at jefristoe@gmail.com

Virginia Pinkerton, our Food Court coordinator, needs someone to deliver Wednesday night meals to shut-ins for the month of January.  Here is her message:
"Ray and Jackie Foster usually deliver meals to 2 families of shut-ins at 5 pm and then come back and eat at Common Cup themselves.  They will be out of town for the month of January and would like someone to deliver meals to them.  The deliveries are on Pavey Place so it is not far.  I was hoping  we could find some volunteers to provide this service to those 2 families.
Virginia"
If you could spare some Wednesday night time in January, it would be much appreciated.
Please call Virginia at 766-5670 or email her at  virginia.pinkerton@att.net

A Christmas Thought

The birthday of Jesus is nearing.
We look forward to celebrating it with our family and friends.
Let's not forget our brave service men & women who won't have that joyful experience.

Why not send a card to those who are serving us and let them know that we are thinking of them.

Here's a straightforward way to send a card. Xerox has a website where you can pick out a card, select a message (supply one yourself) and click to send.

To send a card, Click HERE  and you'll feel good for doing it.

Search For New Conference Treasurer

Mary Frantz [Bellbrook UMC] lets us know of Bishop Ough's letter concerning the retirement of long time Conference treasurer, Stan Sutton and the search for his replacement.

Rev. Stan has not only been a good treasurer but a good speaker & advocate for the mission of the West Ohio Conference.
Bishop Ough's letter:
Subject: CFO/Director of Administration Position Announcement
OHIO WEST AREA OF THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH ______________________________________________________________________
BRUCE R. OUGH, Resident Bishop                 JOYCE E. FRY, Assistant to the Bishop
Karen M. Martin, Executive Secretary              Tim McCoy, Executive Secretary

December 1, 2009

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Grace and peace to you from God, our Creator, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I have been working very closely with the Conference Council on Finance and Administration to put in place a plan to replace our conference treasurer, Rev. Stan Sutton, upon his retirement this coming June.  We are at a point in the process where your participation is critical.

First, this is a very important position within the conference and who we select is, likewise, of great significance.  Please pray for those involved in the process that they may have the wisdom and discernment to identify the best candidate.  Please pray that God's call to the willing and able is heard and that those who hear the call respond.  Finally, please pray for the conference, whose administrative leadership impacts so many facets of the work of the church in making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Second, please share the availability of this position with your congregation.  We have redefined the position and it is now called CFO and Director of Administration of the West Ohio Conference.  In addition to fulfilling the roles and responsibilities of conference treasurer as defined in The Book of Discipline, this person will serve as my chief of staff and provide broad administrative leadership on many matters of the conference, including leadership on implementing our vision, goals and objectives; human resources and benefits administration; and coordination of financial and administrative activities across the various conference and district offices.  This person will continue to serve as a member of my Extended Cabinet.
The description being used in our outreach to identify the ideal candidate can be found on our conference website by clicking here.  Please encourage qualified candidates you know to consider making themselves available for consideration.

Thank you for your help in ensuring your conference leadership provides the support you need to fulfill our mission in the world.  May God continue to bless your faithful and fruitful work and witness.

Yours in Christ,

Bruce R. Ough

Common Cup Trip To Henderson Settlement

Henderson Settlement Mission Trip

Common Cup is planning a mission trip to Henderson Settlement in Frakes, Kentucky next spring.

All members and friends of our Common Cup churches are welcome to participate on this mission trip. Participants should be in high school or older. Frakes, Kentucky is located in the Laurel Fork Valley of Southeastern Kentucky.

The dates of the trip are April 18 through April 21, 2010.

We will leave from Faith Community around 1 pm on Sunday, April 18 and return in the early afternoon on Wednesday, April 21. The total cost of the trip is $85/person which includes transportation, meals, and lodging.

We will use the church van for transportation. You can use a personal vehicle at your own expense. Meals covered on the trip are Sunday dinner, all three meals on Monday and Tuesday, and breakfast on Wednesday. We will sleep either in a campus home at Henderson or on the lower bunks in the dorm with separate rooms for guys and girls. Dorms are accessible. This is not a busy time of year, so we will have plenty of space.

During our two work days you can expect to help in the greenhouse, work on campus, or assist with a home repair project. All work will match the skill level of participants.

In the evenings Henderson staff will provide an educational program and you can enjoy some free time in the mountains.

The purpose of this mission trip is to develop a partnership between our Common Cup Churches and Henderson Settlement, grow in our understanding of missions, create friendships with one another, and share in the love of God with the people of SE Kentucky.

Many thanks to Ruthanne and Bill Lamb who will host our group during this mission trip!

Please register with Pastor Rick for this trip. You will need to read a 6 page Work Camp Handbook, sign a covenant, complete medical release forms, and make your payment by January 31. These forms are available in the office or you can have them sent to you. Just email Pastor Rick at AssocPastor@fcum.org with your preference. The Common Cup Council is offering up to $500 in scholarship funds to those interested in the mission trip.

For more information about the trip or scholarship funds, please contact Pastor Rick.

Your Financial Secretary will know how to forward it ( this is what they used to call an Advance Special where 100% of your donation goes to the project!)
